My New Years Resolutions:
I tried to make these achievable and specific and encompass many facets of my life. None of these are the life changing goals or all encompassing goals like "find my true calling" or "exercise 6 days a week" type of goals. If I can remember, I would like to revisit these about every 4-6 weeks just to see if I am tracking towards them. I also tried to categorize these based on the area of my life.
Health and Diet:
For my health and diet goal, I have two major things I would like to track towards. The first should be easy: I want to get a thorough check-up to make sure all the normal indicators are in line with where they should be and become aware of any risk areas.
The second is a bit more granular. I tend to eat a lot of sugars and unprocessed flour products. I don't have specific metrics I can shoot for, but I would like to cut down on these. The only real measurement for this is reflection and I would like to try to do this every 2-3 weeks.
Education / Interests:
I would like to see if I can get back into understanding and working on OR problems. To do this, I really need to take a couple of the background courses that MIT and others offer for Calculus, Probability, and Advanced Algebra.
Professional Knowledge:
There are two certifications that I can realistically attain and in the next year I would like to get one of them. The two are: PMP and CISSP. My professional experience may favor PMP, but I am more likely to find the CISSP useful in the next few years.
Exercise / Fitness:
I think I have a fairly reliable / regular exercise routine. It probably has too much running and not enough weightlifting / HIIT workouts now, but that can change after I finish an upcoming race. What I would like to focus on is additional to this, I think I should do at least 3 sessions a week of mobility work. This could be yoga, TRX, general stretching, Burma sitting, etc. At least 5-10 mins each and maybe more. Ideally, I would start doing something like yoga regularly, but that might be a bridge further than I am willing to go.
Parenting:
I just want to focus more on asking what happened / how did something happen than jumping to conclusions about issues. My kids are good kids overall and most of the time if they do something wrong there is a reason / explanation. I need to do a better job of finding out that reason before getting upset. I also want to do a better job of setting a good example by watching less TV / playing on the computer more.
Future Thoughts:
Need to make some sort of determination about the 3 immediate career options. Should not keep all 3 as options past this year. A new option would be welcome, but at least 1 or 2 should be eliminated, even if choosing one and moving forward doesn't present itself as a realistic option this year.
